ALCOHOL SEPTAL ABLATION
A coronary angiogram is carried out in order to identify the coronary branch which supplies blood to the thickened segment. This branch is called a septal branch. Alcohol is then injected into the septal branch. Echographic guidance is indispensable during the procedure in order to visualize accurately the septal branch which irrigates the septum. Once this branch has been clearly identified, alcohol is injected and an artificial infarction of the septum is created (alcohol septal ablation) Doppler echocardiography is used to verify procedural success.
